It's Gameday - Get PUUUUMPED!!!

Today beginneth the comeback...

Alright Dudes, don't forget the game is on CBS today at 1pm, not FOX. Or whatever channel your Direct TV takes you to for those on the Sunday Ticket.  Check your local listings.

News:

-We already know that Portis is out, and Ladell Betts is supposedly going to play on his gimpy ankle.

-Hunter the Punter is playing, so Paulescu the Punter is CUT!  Look for Hunter to play through his pulled groin as long as he can so he doesn't get put on IR.  Of course, by that time Paulescu will probably have signed with someone else.

-The Redskins brought up Lendy Holmes from the Practice Squad to give some depth to the Safety ranks.  He's an Undrafted Rookie out of OOOOOOOOOO - klahoma (where the wind comes sweeping down the plain!).  Aaron just loves those Show Tunes.

-No word yet on who, if anybody, is filling Holmes' spot on the Practice Squad.  I'm really beginning to lose hope that they will bring back Marcus Mason.

-Today is the first return to The Jack by Champ Bailey.  I assailed the Champ for Portis trade when it happened and I still think we got jobbed on that one.  Don't forget that we also gave up a second round pick in that trade, because a day doesn't go by that Vinny Cerrato isn't thinking about giving away draft picks.  Just 'cause.

That's right, idiots.  Just 'cause.

Let's hope the latest patchwork O-Line can hold up and Jason Campbell can get things crankin' today.  Get PUUUUUUMPED!!!

Love the Team, Hate the Owner.  And Vinny.

A Fan Goes On Strike

The following is the body of a letter from one of our long-time listeners, David in Williamsburg.  He's the dude that supplied us with the DALLAS SUCKS flag that goes on the road with us to our yearly away game (since we stopped going to The Jack, er, FedEx Field, two years ago).  You may remember Dave and his brother, Pete, as the first guys to unfurl a DALLAS SUCKS banner on the continent of Antarctica.  You don't?  Well, here's a refresher...

Yup, that's Dave (in the jersey) and his brother Pete.  In freaking Antarctica.

Yeah, you might say he’s a true Redskins Fan.  And just like the rest of us, he’s fed up with The Danny and he let Snyder know about it:

Re:       Season Ticket Account #1624700: Sec 425Row 21 Seats 15,16,17,18

Dear Mr. Snyder:

As a lifelong Redskin fan, and a season ticket holder since 2000, I am fed up with your ownership and management of the Washington Redskins.

You have wrapped yourself in a cocoon of PR people and are fantastic at passing the blame.  But after 10 years, it is clear to me that blame for the organization’s current woes lie at your feet.

You inherited Norv Turner.  Not great coach, but a good man.  You proceeded to publicly humiliate him.  You fired him mid-season and replaced him with Terry Robiske, who never had a chance.  You then hired Marty Schottenheimer—a 180 philosophical turnaround.  Ball control.  He did amazing work to fix your salary cap disaster.  You fired him after an 8-8 season.  What would you give for 8-8 now, sir?

Next you chased the shiniest coach entering the NFL.  Steve Spurrier—king of the college wide open offense.  Another 180 turn for the organization.  Of course, that ended in disaster.  But you managed to re-hire Joe Gibbs.  A good hire at the time, but yet another 180 turn back to ball control run-before-passing football.

The next hire proceeded oddly.  You gutted Gibbs’ personnel and hired Zorn as offensive coordinator—before hiring the head coach!  Who does that?  In the end, it appears you couldn’t persuade a quality coach to step up, so you promoted Zorn to head coach.  A 2-step jump from QB coach.

Now things are going badly, and you blame Zorn?  You publicly humiliate him by stripping him of play-calling?  Do you actually believe your next favorite is failing to observe this fiasco?  Is a Gruden or Cowher going to subject himself to this circus of an organization?

Hell, no.

So I can only conclude that this mismanagement will continue until we have a new owner and GM.  Not a new coach or offensive coordinator or playcaller in the sky box.  Or new PR people or parking lot attendants or soda jerks.

I don’t have any say in who owns the Redskins, but I do have a say in where I spend my dollars.  I have been a season ticket holder for the past decade.  I have road-tripped from Williamsburg, VA dozens and dozens and dozens of times.  I have purchased $8 beers in the stands and a closet full of official Redskin merchandise.  I have spent minimum $30,000 on tickets alone and probably upwards of $50,000 with food, beverage, and merchandise.  That doesn’t include gas and lost weekends away from my family.

No more.

As a Redskins fan, I cannot spend any more money with the Snyder organization.  I will cheer my team from home.  Or Charlotte, or Philadelphia, or at the Hall of Fame.  But not at Fedex Field, where fans can no longer even voice their dissent with you.

Please take this as official notice that I do not intend to renew my season ticket account #1624700.

And go to Hell.

Awesome letter, Dude.

Portis Out, Betts Questionable, Where's Marcus Mason?

Seriously???

Clinton Portis has been ruled Out for Sunday's game against his former team, the Broncos.  Oft-Injured Ladell Betts has been limited in practice with a sprained ankle.  Who's gonna run the ball this weekend?  Rock Cartwright?  Quinton Ganther?  Where's Marcus Mason?  According to his Wikipedia page, he's still available.   Yet another bonehead roster move by Vinny...

In other notes, Will Montgomery has been benched in favor of Chad Reinhart.  2008 3rd rounder Reinhart has pretty much sucked every time he's played, whether it's been at Guard or Tackle, so either Will Montgomery really sucks (which we already know) or Chad is getting his final shot at doing something good in a Redskins uniform.  Word out of Ashburn is that he's like Taylor Jacobs.  You guys remember him, the Wide Receiver picked in the 2nd round in 2003 - looked awesome in practice but never could bring it to the stadium on Sundays. Yeah, that's what Chad Reinhart is looking like.  Yet another bonehead roster move by Vinny...

It sounds like Hunter the Punter will go this weekend if he wants to stay off of Injured Reserve.  I have a feeling he's going to play, tweak his not-yet-healed groin, and then be out for the rest of the season.  Because dude wants to play, but groin pulls take for-freaking-ever to clear up.

You guys heard Aaron' Precarious Picks this week on Episode #190 - this is the beginning of the comeback, the road to 10-6, and the playoffs.  It all starts here!  Get pumped!!!

Love the Team, Hate the Owner.

Hail!

As in Haynesworth, Hall, and Horton.

Well Dudes, the Injured Reserve club for 2009 just added a new member:  Chris Horton.  The ligament damage in his left big toe was apparently too extensive to heal on its own, so Horton underwent season ending surgery Wednesday.  His recovery time should be about 4-6 months.

We know that Reed Doughty will get a lot more time filling in for Horton, who he's swapped starts with at Strong Safety over the last few games.  The bigger question is,  are they going to do anything about LaRon "Sailor Dive" Landry?  Dude is allegedly better at Strong Safety, but with the way he's been tackling this year (along with the stupid late hits) I'd prefer they give someone else a chance to do something and let the Dirty Thirty sit for a bit and maybe get his head straight.  Smoot has been playing safety at an increasing level, and at this point I have no problem letting Kareem Moore get his feet wet and get some substantial playing time - it's not like we're going to the playoffs.

Speaking of stupid late hits, LaRon Landry and Big Phat Albert Haynesworth were both fined by the League for the little sideline scuffle during last week's game, but somehow DeAngelo Hall was not.  The Falcons were mum on whether anyone in their organization was fined, but the NFL usually announced fines to the public on Fridays, so we'll know then if the Ultimate Warrior (that doofy strength coach Jeff Fish) or Falcons Head Coach Mike Smith got their due.  Yeah, we all know "Me"Angelo helped to fuel that fire after he went to help Landry off the sideline, but the fact that their Head Coach was acting like a thug along with some of his team was quite surreal.  Not to mention Jeff "Biceps" Fish flexing towards Hall like some weightlifting contestant in a banana hammock.  Questionable.

Phat Albert laughed off the fine he received, while at the same time being slightly critical of his defensive teammates, none of which showed up at the sideline with him to help out DeAngelo Hall when he was completely surrounded by the entire Falcons team.  That fact that Haynesworth, the heaviest and probably close to the slowest guy on Defense, was the first guy over to help him spoke wonders to me about how Hall's teammates feel about him.  I've been hearing rumors and rumblings that some guys in the Redskins locker room don't care much for Hall and his attitude, but you gotta go stick up for your teammate.  I guess some guys figured DeAngelo needed a beat down to slap some sense into him?  Is that gonna help him learn to tackle?

Other quick notes:

With Portis looking "very, very doubtful" to play against his former team this weekend, the Redskins did....NOT sign Marcus Mason.  Again.  Instead they re-signed Quinton Ganther.  Mind-boggling.  At least they have publicly stated that they are not going to sign Larry Johnson.  At least for now.

Chris Cooley still has at least two more weeks before he'll be back on the field.

If Hunter Smith can't go again this weekend, Sam Paulescu will get the nod again.  It's looking like IR is a real possibility for Hunter the Punter.  We need that spot to sign another F.F.R.P. (Former First Round Pick)!

HAIL!

In this week's episode, we talk about yet another loss, this time to the Dirty Birds of Atlanta.   But that matters not, because each one of us at Harry Hog Football is an...

Ah, yeah.  The official 2009 mantra of Harry Hog Football.

We also talk about The Scuffle on the Sidelines, more freaking injuries (Horton, Portis, Mike Williams), why the hell we’re looking at former Chief Larry Johnson as a backup running back instead of re-signing Marcus Mason, and Aaron’s Perilous Predictions for the second half of the season.  Good Times!

All this and much, much more – LIVE! – with Aaron, Josh, and John
