OTA's kicked off this week at Redskins Park, but if your first name is Shawn - or Sean - you must not have gotten the memo. Both Shawn Springs and Sean Taylor are no-shows for the Organized Team Activities so far, and no one really knows quite when either will show up, if at all. Of course the OTA's are voluntary so it doesn't really matter. Officially.Shawn Springs is still working out in Arizona and probably expecting to get cut or traded pretty soon, so I don't blame him one bit for staying away (7.2 Mil. against this year's cap...). Sean Taylor is another matter. Seems Sean and his agent, the nefarious Drew Rosenhaus, think that he should be getting a contract extension right about now, especially since his Safety-Mate LeRon Landry is going to be an extremely rich man very soon...richer than Sean Taylor as a matter of fact. Unfortunately for Taylor, anyone with two eyes knows that Sean Taylor wasn't exactly the cream of the crop last year and that he basically made the Pro Bowl on name and not performance. That may be their unspoken reasoning for wanting an extension now - what if Sean Taylor has another average year and Landry makes him look like an amateur? That future paycheck is getting smaller by the minute.Sean Taylor can hit you so hard you'll cry for your momma, but if he misses tackles and takes bad angles this year like he did last year, AND hits people late in about one-fourth of your games, does he really deserve a contract extension now? On the other hand, well, Sean Taylor can hit you so hard you'll cry for your momma. 'Nuff said. Maybe we should jump at the opportunity to lock him up for another 5 years while he could be cheaper than at the end of a magnificent season. What do you think, Harry Hog Nation?Hail!John

Yeah, Joe like Sean, he won't let him hold out. We'll see him at training camp. I think he's just staying out of OTA's as a threat. Shawn Springs, well he may have died.

First, why is anyone surprised.. every year is another player from 'The U' who decides to miss OTA's and/or threaten to hold out.
Also, don't forget Papa Joe HATES people that hold out for contract extentsions... and I mean HATES it... he firmly believes that you sign a contract - it's your word and you stick to it until the contract is over (one of the reasons I always think this crap about him leaving before the 5 years is up is garbage).

Your right Aaron, but it's more because of, as much as I love him, Taylor can be a distraction. If we don't show him his money, we could have an issue.

I think we need to sign Taylor to an extension if that what he wants. I mean how would you feel if you got paid less than someone coming in that sucked(Archeletta) and now you are going to get paid less than a rookie? I think he deserves it, if nothing else than for the Redskins to break this bad precedent that has been set by not showing loyalty to their players and throwing money away at worthless super over-rated free agents that come to Washington and SUCK.

Well, how many more years does he have left? Don't forget, I'm pretty sure that Cooley is in his contract year.

Sean Taylor needs to shut up and show up, he didn't play well enough last year to get more money this year...Tell ya what sean, don't shoot at anybody off the field and don't spit on anybody on the field and well talk at the end of the year...

Far more concerned with Taylor because he fits into our long term plans and because his absence is more contentious. Shawn Springs just comes off as uninterested, Taylor seems genuinely pissed off about the way the team has financially handled the FS position.

I think we want both of them bad boys back there. ST needs to bring an extra pair of Ronald McDonald socks with him to OTAs, offer them up to LaRon as a peace offering, and the two of them say "Wonder-Twin Powers, Activate." GAME ON! Give them both the same money who cares... pocket change for the Dan... they'll figure it out...it's all good.
