Bringing Briggs to D.C.?
Tuesday, 27 March 2007

Rumor has it that disgruntled LB Lance Briggs may be coming to DC in a swap of first round draft picks.

ESPN.com is reporting that his agent, the ever-pleasant Drew Rosenhaus, believes that a contract offer from Snyder & Co. is "a strong likelyhood" but that no offer has been formalized yet.  The question is this:  With Fletcher, Washington and McIntosh already penciled in by HHF as this season's starters, who's going to get relegated to the bench?  Or traded?  Or cut?  And don't we need a D-Lineman or D-End pretty badly?  And is Briggs the kind of personality that we want in D.C.?  Ok, that's a bunch of questions but all are relevant.  What does Harry Hog Nation think of this possibility?

Hail.

John

Yeah, If it went down the way it was reported. What does Danny think he's doing making offers without consulting the team president. This is how he's made stupid decisions in the past. He's an impulse buyer. Like the type of chick that sees something in the store window she has to have. He won't be satisfied until he gets it. Like a spoiled brat. I wish the league could make the Danny sell the team. I can't stand him. I like RockSellers comments. We should be focusing on DE and if there is not more than the Bears first round pick and briggs for our first round pick,(IE they need to throw in a third or forth) then I say NOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Why didn't we just trade Archuleta for Briggs Strait-up? Briggs said that he WON'T play for the Bears so they are just going to have to get what they can for him.

According to various media reports, this deal was first brought up by The Danny, without first consulting with Coach Gibbs.

This raises another question: Who's really making the decisions in Washington - Team President and Man Of Authority Gibbs, or The Danny, who supposedly is now a "Hands Off" owner? :-

this trade makes no sense. hes like Archuleta, a product of the Tampa 2 D. We don't need another linebacker because Rocky showed he can play in the league and Marshall last time he played outside was terrific. if the Denver offer is out there, i think that one is a no brainer. they get four first day picks and a solid corner for one first day and a second. this trade just makes absolutely no sense, ol danny boy needs to stop trying and land big name players and just aquire solid players. briggs is just a product, he aint all that

Don't forget Fox at saftey

I've got it. LB's are supposed to be pretty good DE's right? So what if we traded Lloyd and our first rounder to the Bears, for their first rounder, Briggs, and a second or third rounder. Witht the depth at LB, DL won't be a problem.

I have to admit when I first heard this, this morning I thought, oh no, here we go again trying to get a big name just for name sake (like Deion) but then after doing some thinking, it may not be that bad.

The only reason I was thinking this was a bad idea was because of the underachieving defensive line last season. I thought that we may want to put our top pick at getting a defensive end. But then, hey, maybe the Redskins have some faith in Andre Carter, and are betting that he does not underachieve this year. If he plays well, with the pickup in Golstons play on the inside towards the end of last season, maybe this is the Redskins mindset.
This could be good because it would give us a lower down first round pick(I think number 30) and a lower round pick. We could get a solid lineman with that to go along with the superstar from the Bears. If we keep our pick, we could end up with another Heath Shuler. It's more of a gamble when you look at it that way.
Imagine the depth at linebacker with Briggs. We'll have Briggs, Washington, and Fletcher. With backups Rocky Mcintosh and Lemar Marshall. That would be huge. We've already solidified the D backs with Smoot, and we still have Springs who may stay(which would be good) or the rumor trade for Dre Bly. Either way, those two along with Rogers as the nickel back we are getting solid on that front.
Safety's we got rid of Archuletta (thank god) and now we still have Sean Taylor and now Omar Stoutmire, who I believe is a good safety, and Preilou will be back as well.

It could be good. We'll just have to wait and see.

First let me say that I love the new web site, having an up to date place to get skins news is great!!! I saw that this was going to be a topic on Cold Pizza this morning, but had to leave to get to work before I could watch it...but I go to the Harry Hog nation and you have already posted on it...friggin awesome! I think that this would be a good trade, provided that we can get their first rounder and at least one other pick (maybe a third or fourth rounder). I am not sure what this would mean for McIntosh though, as that is his spot that will be given up, unless of course Washington is not recovering from surgery as well as we thought. The one thing I do like is that Briggs is a big mean guy that can hold down the weak side which we saw last year was a little bit weaker than you want with Carter playing on that side.
